Only started to recover since he came here

Zack P Grandson of Resident

My grandfather came to The Laurels Care Centre from the hospital 2 months ago. He suffered a broken hip and only started to recover since he came here. Staff are very caring and help him with all his needs in a very friendly manner. I am very pleased that he is being cared for so well.

The Laurels Care Centre is a million times better!

Gail O Daughter of Resident

Really impressed with The Laurels Care Centre. Had to transfer dad from another home which was closing and The Laurels Care Centre is a million times better. The only thing dad complains about is that he has lost some of his Freeview channels on his TV! If they could sort that out then it would be perfect!

Inside & Accommodation

The Laurels offers an attractive mix of traditional architecture and modern convenience and facilities. The original part of the home is Victorian with many of the historic features still in place, giving the home a very traditional feel.

There are two purpose built sections that provide accommodation and living space of the very highest standard. Spread over two floors the home has 51 well appointed and immaculately decorated rooms that provide a variety of layouts, styles and sizes for you to choose from.

The newest addition to the home is the Rochester wing which houses the two spacious, light, airy and accommodating lounge and dining areas along with the coffee lounge area.

The home provides many activities, events and entertainment opportunities for you to enjoy. You can take a trip down memory lane in our very own cinema room where we show period and modern movies.

We have a fully equipped hair and beauty salon with weekly visits from our professional hairdresser.

Is there a garden?

The home is set in mature grounds bordered by trees and hedges making a very private, secure and secluded space to enjoy. In the summer months, the sunny patio is a good place to socialise and meet up with family and friends. A number of our rooms enjoy their own private patio seating areas.

Calm but cheerful atmosphere in an immaculate environment and gardens

Fiona W Goddaughter of Resident

I was so grateful that The Laurels was recommended to me especially as I do not live in Sussex so local knowledge was limited. I am a trustee for a retirement home and have a recently retired nurse's hat on.

My first impressions of The Laurels was very positive, the building, but more importantly the staff, particularly the matron.

Since visiting and becoming more acquainted, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are always welcoming, abundant smiles and I feel they all enjoy working there. They show respect and dignity to their residents, there is a calm but cheerful atmosphere in an immaculate environment and gardens.

Thank you so much for all your wonderful supportive care which is even more reassuring when not living close.

The garden is in use throughout spring and summer for the many garden parties we hold for birthdays, Easter and many other occasions throughout the year.

If you enjoy gardening you can also keep your green fingers by helping to tend to the garden's plants and flowers.

Very happy to see various activities taking place, especially in the run-up to Christmas

Patricia H Friend of Resident

I have been regularly visiting a friend at The Laurels since their arrival and I have been very happy to see various activities taking place, especially in the run-up to Christmas.

Activities were listed for residents and family in their special Christmas brochure, which contains events such as a pantomime, Xmas sing-along, several choirs and a puppet show, which I attended and the residents seemed to thoroughly enjoy.

Staff are always good-humoured and professional and my friend is well cared for. The atmosphere is welcoming and caring.

How do I know my loved one will be well looked after?

Honestly, one of the most difficult things you'll encounter when looking for a suitable care home for your loved one is judging how good the care they provide is. Of course, everyone says they provide excellent care, but how do you really know they do?

Here are a few very strong indicators we believe show The Laurels to be one of the top care homes in the region.

CQC Rating

Every care home is rated by the CQC, Government's inspection body, and given a rating of Inadequate, Requires Improvement, Good or Outstanding. The Laurels is rated as Good in all five areas.

Reviews

The people who really know how good the care is are our residents and their families. Below you'll see reviews of The Laurels from www.carehome.co.uk and the excellent overall satisfaction rating they represent.

Events & Activities

It's essential to check out a care home's New and Events and Facebook page for actual evidence of the great lives their residents are living at the home. You should see lots of pictures and videos of the activities and events taking place at the home.

This is also a great way for you to keep in touch and get involved with what's happening at the home.

You can
check out our activities by clicking here and our Facebook page by clicking here. While you're on our Facebook page why not Like it and leave a comment? We'd love to hear from you.

Very long-serving staff & staff ratios

We're delighted (and very proud) to say that The Laurels has an extremely loyal and long-serving workforce with members of staff who have been with the home for over 15 years.

This means our team will have the time to really get to know your loved one's individual needs and requirements so that we can provide the best possible care for them and build up a strong and lasting bond of friendship and trust.

In addition we have a minimum 1:4 ratio of staff to residents which is higher than average and is often exceeded depending on our individual residents' requirements.

Will they enjoy the food?

Definitely, if they like deliciously tasty cuisine freshly prepared from locally sourced ingredients.
Our Head Chef and his team bring his 20 years’ experience to bear to create mouth-wateringly tasty food for all pallets and dietary needs.

The kitchen has a five-star food rating and is a busy place producing breakfast, lunch and dinner every day with several choices for each meal, along with any special dietary needs and special requests.

Your loved one will never be short of something tasty to satisfy their taste buds as they can also enjoy the morning tea and coffee round served with snacks and nibbles such as homemade biscuits, cakes and pastries. Then there's a second round of the same in the afternoon.

The food was amazing!

T P Daughter of Resident

It was lovely to see my mother as well as all of the other residents enjoying the BBQ celebrations outside in the beautiful gardens, plus generations of family members too. The food was amazing and catered for all - everyone was actually spoilt for choice. The smiles on the residents' faces said it all.

In addition, a range of fruits, yoghurts and snacks is available any time of the day on request.

Main meals are served in the two light, airy and spacious dining rooms which are the beating heart of the home and a great place for socialising. If the mood takes them, your loved one can catch up with friends while enjoying their meal here or alternatively they can eat in their own room, the garden or any of the communal areas in the home.

What should I do now?

The best way to find out if The Laurels Care Centre is the right place for you or your loved one is to come and visit. We’d be delighted to meet you and to show you around the facilities.
